Captain Dave's Dolphin Safari

Dana Point, CA

Dolphins galore! Dolphins everywhere. It's a Dolphin Safari!

Look to the left. Look to the right. Behind. In front. Below. Dolphins everywhere!

Captain Dave's Dolphin Safari out of Dana Point, CA.
The scene is Captain Dave’s Dolphin Safari, a hi-tech catamaran surrounded by dolphins off the coast of Southern California. While Captain Dave doesn’t guarantee you’ll see dolphins, he’s usually right on about 85% of the time.

There is a handy Dolphin & Whale Cam for below the surface viewing.

And a special Tram Net (you’ll get wet!) to get closer to the dolphins.

Listen in on what the dolphins or whales are saying to each other on the hydrophone.

Or say hello to the dolphins through the underwater transducer and see how they react to your voice.

Check out the cool Dolphin Safari sightings log for the different kinds of dolphins and whales you might see during a certain month. Southern California has the largest dolphin population in the U.S. and pods can get as large as 5,000.

That’s a lot of dolphins!

And what about Blue whales? California has more Blue whales than anywhere else in the world.

They’re seen from May-early October as are Fin whales and Minke whales. The time to see Gray whales is usually from December to early May when they’re migrating between Alaska and Baja. As an added bonus there’s a possibility you might see a Killer whale, Humpback whale, false Killer whale or a Sperm whale.

Didn’t know there were so many different kinds of whales in California, did you!

This Southern California adventure is based in Dana Point, where there are some unique, really deep, underwater coastal canyons within a mile of shore. Lots of small fish live there. Dolphins love these small fish. It’s a regular smorgasboard of good eats. So the dolphins, smart animals that they are, tend to hang out near there.

That’s the place to go to see dolphins. Where they hang out. And Captain Dave’s Dolphin Safari can take you there!
