Hangar Hotel
Fredericksburg, Texas
Fly in and taxi up to the front door of the 1940s at the Hangar Hotel.
Yes, that’s right.
The 1940s with a South Pacific/WWII theme.
The Quonset hut style Hangar Hotel was built to resemble a World War II military hangar. All 50 rooms are all in keeping with the World War II theme with replica 1940s furniture, olive drab army blankets and chairs covered with bomber-jacket leather.
It is situated on the edge of an airport facing the runway, and from the second story Observation Deck you can watch airplanes taking off and landing.
The Airport Diner is next door. It’s a classic 1940s diner fashioned after the old railcar diners of the northeastern states. Enjoy a “Bomber Burger” with a chocolate malt and hand battered onion rings while you watch the airport activity.

If you really want to get into the South Pacific World War II theme, in the town of Fredericksburg is the National Museum of the Pacific War. It is the only museum in the continental US devoted entirely to the Pacific Theater battles of World War II. War hero Admiral Chester Nimitz grew up in Fredericksburg.
