Haunted Holly Hotel

Holly, Michigan

The haunted Holly Hotel, now a restaurant, in Holly, Michigan.

There are ghosts galore at the haunted Holly Hotel!

And actually, it's an ex-hotel. It’s now a restaurant. However, it is still haunted and it is a public place.

After all, haunted is haunted, right? And it used to be a hotel so I’m so I’m going to include it in the haunted hotel section even though you can’t stay the night there any more.

Besides, they’re willing to show you around plus they have haunted events and séances once in a while. Especially in October...

You see, the Holly Hotel people love their ghosts.

That’s the way it should be!

So who are the ghosts? What can you smell, hear, feel?

Well, the ghostly happenings at the haunted Holly Hotel are pretty consistent. Lots of people have had the same experiences – smelling cigar smoke or a certain flowery perfume, hearing laughter or music, seeing objects moving. There’s even a small ghost dog that brushes up against your legs!

Is the Holly Hotel in Holly MI really haunted? It's now a restaurant and lots of ghostly happenings have been documented! Mr. Hirst, of Hirst Hotel before it was Holly Hotel, gets the credit for the cigar smoke. Sometimes it’s a bare whiff, sometimes it’s a heavy cigar smokey smell. It’s most common at the top of the stairs or in the Carry Nation Banquet Room. He also likes to laugh in a low bariton. He doesn’t materialize much but if you see a guy in a frock coat and top hat, you may just have seen the elusive sight of Mr. Hirst.

The music comes from Nora Kane. She loved music when she was alive. She still loves music dead. If you hear piano music drifting through the building, it could just possibly be her. She also sings. Her most common manifestation is her flowery perfume which can be smelled in any room but most often in the turret area in the main bar. She also likes to show up in pictures, especially wedding pictures! If you see an incomplete lady in a beautiful dress in the bar or the back hallway, you’ve most likely seen Nora.

In the kitchen a happy, playful 9-13 year old girl likes to giggle and move things around. She especially the meat cleaver. Didn’t her mommy tell her not to play with sharp obects????? Or maybe that’s why she likes the meat cleaver so much!

The dog, Leona, was Mr. Hirst’s dog. She’s a rat terrier type and can be heard running up and down the hall and brushing up against people’s legs. She’s also been known to bark.

And of course there are the orbs and ghostly swirls of mist that show up in photos so be sure and take lots of pictures when you visit the Holly Hotel. It’s been called the most haunted historic building in Michigan so you never can tell just what might show up in your photos!
