Lookout Roadhouse

Lake Elsinore, CA

At the Lookout Roadhouse, start the day with breakfast.

Breakfast? Gee, what a novel concept, you're probably thinking.

What if it’s ribs for breakfast?

Now ribs aren’t exactly weird food...But how about having them for breakfast? Well that could be called weird and unusual, for sure!

Perched on a cliff beside the Ortega Highway is a small little restaurant called the Lookout Roadhouse. It's been there for years and years and years.

(And years.)

The Ortega Highway (Hwy 74) is a winding mountain road between Lake Elsinore and San Juan Capistrano. The Lookout is a popular hang out for bikers.

The view from the Lookout is awesome.

You can go to the food service window for a quick bite to eat. That’s where most of the people get their food. Then they go sit on the rocks to look at the view.

Or……

There’s a real restaurant in back of the food service area. I only learned about this not too long ago. And I've been stopping here for years!

It’s a whole different world.

Enter into a kicked-back, laid back atmosphere where the dark wood panel walls have soaked up the good times over the ages. Grab a table by the etched windows for an awesome view of Lake Elsinore and sit back.

Relax.

Check the lake for Elsie, the lake monster that's supposed to live within its depths.

Relax.

Play a board game from their collection of games.

Relax.

They even warn you on their menu. "Grub this good is bound to take a while."

Don't be in any hurries.

That's my friend Squeak waiting for breakfast at the Lookout Roadhouse in Lake Elsinore, CA.

The Country Breakfast with Ribs is worth the wait.

Directions: From the inland side: On the I-15 in Lake Elsinore take the Central Avenue Exit and follow the Hwy 74 signs around the lake. At the intersection of Grand Avenue and Ortega Highway there is a stop sign. Turn right. The Lookout Roadhouse is about 4 miles up the mountain on the right.

From the coast side. On the I-5 in San Juan Capistrano take the Highway 74 (Ortega Hwy) exit and head east. The Lookout Roadhouse is about 23 miles on the left.

P.S. They also have those same delicious ribs they serve for breakfast at lunch and dinner, too!
