Michigan Tourist Attractions

Guide to roadside oddities and other weird, strange and unusual attractions in Michigan

Are you looking for some different Michigan tourist attractions and roadside oddities?

Maybe the world's largest chainsaw? (The chainsaw even works. Good thing that guy in Texas didn't know about it!)

Or perhaps the world's largest display of rustic pine furniture appeals?

I know....a tour of a pet casket factory!

Michigan has an eclectic mixture of tourist traps and travel attractions. While some are just mildly different others are just plain weird and unusual.

  • Baldwin - Shrine of the Pines.

  • Gladstone - For a weird factory tour, try the Hoegh Pet Casket Factory.

  • Holly - Lots of ghostly happenings at this old haunted hotel that is now a restaurant!

  • Ishpeming - Is this Paul Bunyon's chainsaw????

The World's Largest working chainsaw is along Highway 41/28 just west of Ishpeming, MI. It is on the south side of the road.

  • Lake Superior - Rockhoundin' Michigan.

Agates can be found on the southern and western shores of Lake Superior. Look on beaches with pebbles.

    What's an agate?

    What's just a pebble?

This site might help you identify the difference.

Lake Superior agates are considered to be the most beautiful in the whole wide world. Especially prized are the ones with red and white bands.

Check out some of the beaches on the north and west shores of the Keweenaw peninsula for Lake Superior agates. Map.

And if you find a Petoskey Stone, you snagged a real Michigan treasure!

And what is a Petoskey Stone?

  • St Ignace - Mystery Spot of St Ignace.

A Mystery Spot where water flows uphill, chairs balance strange and you might even feel a bit queasy from the weird energies.
