Mississippi Tourist Attractions

Guide to roadside oddities and other weird, strange and unusual attractions in Mississippi.

Looking for Mississippi tourist attractions that are offbeat tours?

And how about some unusual lodgings—Mississippi style? Near the crossroads.

Yes, THE famous crossroads. Where some guy sold his soul to the devil so he could play the guitar really good.

  • Gulfport - Beached S.S. Hurricane Camille.

One of Mississippi’s roadside oddities is the S.S. Hurricane Camille. It’s a tugboat that washed ashore in Hurricane Camille.

S.S. Hurricane Camille is also a survivor of Hurricane Katrina. The roadside oddity no longer has the gift shop attached, though.
There used to be a gift shop attached but Hurricane Katrina tore that away. The tugboat itself is still there for a great roadside oddity photo op.

The S.S. Hurricane Camille is on the North side of US 90 at 37th Ave in Gulfport, MS.

  • Clarksdale - Unusual lodgings near the Crossroads.

Clarksdale is home to a bunch of blues singers.

So take in the Crossroads, hear some blues and sleep in a sharecropper’s shack at night. Or a bin in the Cotton Gin Inn.

Wow! Two unusual lodgings right on the same plantation.

You might want to spend two nights!

The shotgun shacks at the Shack Up Inn, Clarksdale MS are unusual lodgings, blues style.

The Shack Up Inn is a row of shotgun shacks that have been slightly renovated and upgraded with indoor plumbing and electricity. They are filled with mismatched furniture and memorabilia. True Mississippi tourist attractions!

As a bit of an extra, don't look for a mint on your pillow. Look for a Moon Pie!

On the same old plantation, you can stay in a grain bin in the Cotton Gin Inn.

Shack Up Inn/Cotton Gin Inn is at 001 Commissary Circle, Clarksdale, MS. Phone: (662) 624-8329

And since the blues began in Clarksdale, it’s only fitting to take in the blues at Ground Zero Blues Club. It is at 0 Blues Alley in Clarksdale, next door to the Delta Blues Museum.

Okay. Let’s add some even more unusual lodgings, Mississippi style. You can rent an apartment for the night above the Ground Zero Blues Club! They used to grade cotton there. Phone: 662-645-9366

The famous Crossroads is marked by a guitar-shaped sign. Clarksdale, Mississippi.

The Crossroads are at the intersection of Highways 161 and 49.

In case you should want to sell your soul to the devil to play great music - that is if he’s even making deals like that anymore - the spot is conveniently marked with a guitar-shaped sign.

  • Highway 61 - Blues and Blacktop.

Isn’t that a cool theme for a great offbeat tour?

Here’s where you and one other person climb in the backseat of a 1955 Cadillac and take to the blues road of the Mississippi Delta.

Even if you’re not into blues, you can still appreciate the uniqueness of this tour. Maybe even better, because it’s something totally out of your realm of normalness.

So don’t say “I don’t like blues,” and pass up this offbeat Mississippi tourist attraction. It’s different, it’s unique, it’s the Blues!!

Member—that’s what this site is all about! Doing offbeat tours you normally wouldn’t and staying in unusual lodgings you normally don’t!

American Dream Safari is based in Memphis, Tennessee. But don’t let that fool you. The Delta Day Trip is in Mississippi! Phone: (901) 527-8870

  • Lucedale - Jerusalem is a Mississippi tourist attraction.

    Yeah. It is.

There are other Jerusalems in the U.S. too. This one just happens to be in Mississippi.

At Palestine Gardens you cross the river Jordan, see the Dead Sea, walk past Bethlehem and Jerusalem and a bunch of other Holy Land related stuff.

Palestine Gardens is just north of Lucedale, MS off U.S. 98.

  • Moss Point - Snap. Snap! Snap!

Okay. That better be your camera taking pictures and not you feeding the alligators!

Take an offbeat tour through an alligator farm on an airboat.

That’s the way to see the gators. From an airboat! Airboats are cool rides!

Gulf Coast Gator Ranch and Airboat Swamp Tours is at 10300 Hwy 90, Moss Point, Mississippi. Phone: Toll Free: (866) 954-2867
