Mount Washington Hotel
Bretton Woods, NH

At Mount Washington Hotel, Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, there’s a ghost that likes to write on walls!
She also likes to turn lights on and off.
Ho hum. Lots of ghosts do that. But not every ghost writes on walls!
That is something to experience!
So what does she write? Hmmmmm. You’ll just have to stay in the tower suites and find out for yourself!
The Mount Washington Hotel opened in 1902. 250 master craftsmen labored over the Spanish Renaissance structure for two years. It is grand. It is sumptuous. It is elegant and sophisticated. And it quickly became a favorite haunt (ha ha, no pun intended!) for poets, presidents and princes.
One princess liked it so well she never left.
Actually, she was the wife of the man who built the hotel, industrialist Joseph Stickney. When her husband died, Carolyn Stickney married a French prince. “Princess Carolyn”, as the ghost is called, now resides in the tower suites doing ghostly things like writing on walls and turning lights on and off.
Also, it has been reported that the sound of babies crying can be heard in the Madison Room.
Besides the ghosts, another great feature of the hotel is its one-sixth-mile-long wrap-around verandah.
Whooooeee!!!!
Where to choose a rocking chair to take in the views!
Bretton Woods is part of Mount Washington Resort. It is New Hampshire’s largest ski area. Doesn’t matter if you’re a pro or a beginner, there’s a slope suited for everyone.
So take in some skiing, take in some ghosts, all at this wonderful old grand hotel!
And don’t forget to take time for a ride on the
Mount Washington Cog Railway
!
