New Mexico Tourist Attractions

Guide to roadside oddities and other weird, strange and unusual attractions in New Mexico..

Weird New Mexico tourist attractions include roadside oddities like

Fridgehenge

(You guessed it—a Stonehenge replica made out of refrigerators!)

a cool ride in a troika

(I’m not going to tell you-look it up in the dictionary!)

and rockhounding for opals

(or the more easily findable agates and quartz crystals)

  • Albuquerque - American International Rattlesnake Museum.

Learn all you wanted (and more) about rattlesnakes at this New Mexico tourist attraction.

  • Santa Fe - Stonehenge (with a twist) in New Mexico.

Actually it's Fridgehenge. Or Stonefridge. Whichever.

Directions: Fridgehenge, or Stonefridge, is located at the old Santa Fe landfill on Paseo de Vista Dr. From N. St. Frances Dr, go about 1.5 miles down Camino de las Crucitas. Go past Frank S. Ortiz Park. Camino de las Crucitas turns into Paseo de las Vistas. It's about a 1/4 mile from the park.

  • Taos - Sleigh rides in New Mexico!

Taos Indian Horse Ranch has horse drawn troikas (giant sleighs—oops, I told you).

If you’re not there in the winter, they have horseback riding through a wonderful old Pueblo. That’s a New Mexico tourist attraction not everybody gets to do!

Taos Indian Horse Ranch is at 1 Miller Rd-Taos Pueblo, Taos NM. 1-800-659-3210 or 505-758-3212

For another Taos winter-fun activity, try sledding at the U.S. Hill in Carson National Forest. 12 miles south of Taos on Rte 518. It’s where the local families go to sled.

Taos- OoooohOooooh—Ghostly haunting on the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge.
