Well, Rhode Island has a bunch of other nifty things besides bugs.
There's bonfires on rivers.
There's a wonderful island called Block Island.
And there are spunky monkeys.
Well, there's all sorts of cool Rhode Island tourist attractions on Block Island like old lighthouses, a nifty statue that has basins for horses and dogs to drink water, and of course stone walls. Lots of stone walls.
The most popular way to get to Block Island, Rhode Island, is by ferry from Point Judith. After you're on the island walking or bicycles or mopeds are the usual form of transportation.
Block Island - Colorful roadside oddity.
On Block Island there's a rock at the corner of Mohegan Trail, Lakeside Drive, and Snake Hole Road whose appearance keeps changing.
Called the Painted Rock for a really good reason, layers and layers and LAYERS of paint have been added to it over the years. It's always a surprise to see what the latest color scheme or message is.
Check it out and be sure and take a picture. It may be different the next day, or even the next hour...
Providence - Meet a "spunky monkey"!
The Roger Williams Park Zoo is a really old Rhode Island tourist attraction. It's been around since the late 1890s. From a small menagerie of animals it's grown to a wonderful full-fledged zoo with all sorts of cool exhibits.
They have a spunky monkey, too.
In the Tropical America building, climb a spiral staircase to cross over a rope and wood bridge to see the birds and primates at treetop level.
Watch the elephants take a bath at around 10 in the morning in the Plains of Africa. Catch this if you can-it's a major event!!!
Follow in Marco Polo's footsteps on his three-year journey through Asia.
Well, not his exact footsteps! His re-created footsteps. The Marco Polo Trail is a biopark exhibit-that's where cultural, historical and zoological experiences are combined. So sights Marco Polo saw like a Venetian plaza and a Bedouin tent are combined with animals he saw like snow leopards and moon bears.
Cool!
Directions: The Roger Williams Park Zoo is off I-95 at 1000 Elmwood Ave. (Follow the zoo signs off the freeway.) Phone: (401) 785-3510
Providence - Rivers on fire!
A series of 100 bonfires blaze just above the surface of the three rivers that flow through the middle of downtown Providence.
Stroll along the river walks and enjoy the sights and sounds of this Rhode Island tourist attraction.
Crackling flames.
The smell of burning cedar and pine.
The flickering firelight.

Really, WaterFire is a Rhode Island adventure you don't want to miss.
Providence - The home of Rhode Island's Big Blue Bug.
Perched on the roof of New England Pest Control is one bug they don't want to exterminate.
Nibbles Woodaway, a giant blue termite, is a famous Rhode Island oddity. He is known far and wide as the Big Blue Bug.
You can see him as you whiz by on I-95 but to really appreciate this roadside oddity, up closer is better. The Big Blue Bug is at 161 O'Connell Street, Providence RI.
Westerly - Tour town in an amphibious vehicle.
Go DUCKS!!!
Take a tour of town, half on land, half on water. There's not many places that have tours like this. There's one in San Diego. One in Westerly, Rhode Island...
This could definitely be called a weird tourist attraction. Maybe not for the tour itself so much as the transportation used. It is an authentic old World War II amphibious landing vehicle.
So hop on board (Uh, is that the right term?) this weird Rhode Island tourist attraction and take a waddle through historic Westerly-Pawcatuck and a splash into the Pawcatuck River.
