San Diego
Tourist Attractions
San Diego is one of my favorite big cities. There are all sorts of fun things to do in the area. There are neat
footbridges,
unusual lodgings and a cool old roller coaster ride.
And guess what else!
You can still catch the brass ring on the carousel at Balboa Park.
Giant Dipper Roller Coaster
This is one cool ride! Every time I go to Belmont Park in Mission Beach I have to ride the roller coaster. It's just one of those "musts"!
The Giant Dipper was built in 1925. There were a lot of amusement parks along the ocean back then.
It's sad.
Most of them are gone now.
On the Pacific side, the Giant Dipper is one of the two original oceanfront roller coasters still running. (The other one is in Santa Cruz. It was built in 1924.)
Directions: Ride this old San Diego roller coaster at Belmont Park in Mission Beach. Belmont Park is at Mission Boulevard and West Mission Bay Drive. From I-5 take Sea World Drive to West Mission Bay Drive.
Topiary Hill
For something just a bit different, check out the topiary sculptures at the corner of Union and Vine in Mission Hills. It’s a private residence and they’ve turned their front yard into a riot of topiaries.
Somewhere I read there are 50 of them.
(I didn’t count 'em!)
Directions: At the corner of Union and Vine.
