Tennessee Tourist Attractions

Guide to roadside oddities and other weird, strange and unusual attractions in Tennessee.

Tennessee tourist attractions include unusual lodgings.

And a cool ride on an incline railway.

And you know those nifty little souvenirs from tacky tourist traps that are so popular? Smashed pennies? Well, there’s a bunch of smashed penny machines in Tennessee!

  • Chattanooga - Chattanooga Choo Choo Zzzz Zzzz.

That’s right – Sleep in a train car!

At the Holiday Inn in Chattanooga, TN you can sleep aboard a restored Victorian train car.

Old train cars are cool unusual lodgings!!!

    And guess what else!

There’s a couple of smashed penny machines at the Chattanooga Choo Choo!

    Yeah!

  • For a great kitschy Tennessee tourist attraction that’s actually in Georgia see Rock City!

    Yep!

As in "SEE ROCK CITY" that was painted on barns all around the countryside. That Rock City. It’s only about 6 miles from Chattanooga, just over the Tennessee – Georgia state line.

And yep…Before you ask…There’s a smashed penny machine at the outside gift shops at the end of the paths.

Way cool – one of the designs is a “SEE ROCK CITY” barn!

Here's some more tourist attractions in Chattanooga.

  • Lookout Mountain - Cool ride on an incline railway.

Trolley-style railcars carry you high up onto Lookout Mountain with a 72.7% grade of the track right near the top.

The Lookout Mountain Incline Railway in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Whooooo….

    Takes your breath away.

From the lookout station at the top you can see the Great Smoky Mountains that are like 100 miles away.

Well, if it’s a clear day, that is. Otherwise, well, otherwise, you can’t.

Okay. Cool. Are there smashed pennies at the inline railway????

    Regional Transportation Authority.

    Yep! There is!

Gotta get that Tennessee tourist attraction souvenir! The smashed penny machine is at the top of the railway, just inside the door to the ice cream parlor and to the right!

  • Memphis - Okay okay something Elvis…

    How about a smashed penny?????

Just down Elvis Presley Boulevard from the gates of Graceland, Boulevard Souvenirs has a smashed penny machine.

    Memphis hotels.

  • Paris - The Eiffel Tower is a Tennessee tourist attraction…

There are supposedly 14 other cities in the US named Paris. I know of one in Texas.....

A Paris, Tennessee landmark is the Eiffel Tower.

Tennessee’s Eiffel Tower stands in the Memorial Park, Paris, TN.

Hey, there's something called Bronson's Eiffel Tower in Bronson, Missouri. And it looks nothing like the real or replica Eiffel Towers of the Paris’, France or U.S.

  • Bristol - Twang away on this guitar!

    Well, maybe not.

    It’s kinda…large…..

The Grand Guitar is now a museum in Bristol, TN.

Like 70 feet long and 3 stories tall.

It would play one heck of a song if it was playable though, huh.

The neck inlay and sound hole are windows. Cool!!!

This is a great example of newer roadside oddities. The Grand Guitar, modeled after a Martin guitar, was built in 1983.

Isn’t that just way cool for those of us that like roadside oddities? They’re still building them!

There’s a mimetic architecture building in Kentucky that’s kinda newish, too!

Long live the old roadside oddities!

And keep on building new ones!!

    Yeah!!!!

The Joe Morrell Grand Guitar museum is at 3245 W. State St, Bristol, TN. Phone: (423) 968-1451

Just as an added little footnote (no, no smashed penny machine that I know of!) - the town of Bristol is half in Tennessee and half in Virginia!
