Texas Tourist Attractions

Guide to roadside oddities and other wierd, strange and unusual attractions in Texas.

There are many Texas tourist attractions. It's such a huge state, there’s lots of room for all sorts of wonderful roadside oddities.

Like the world’s largest this.

And the world’s largest that.

And water towers in disguise.

Just all sorts of weird roadside attractions.

There’s room for all kinds of other tourist attractions, too.

Like swamps and haunted lodgings.

And ghost trains and…

well, here’s a few of those weird Texas tourist attractions....

  • Fort Stockton - Where’s the world’s largest Wile E.?

Roadside oddities in Fort Stockton Texas include a huge roadrunner named Paisano Pete.

Paisano Pete of Fort Stockton Texas used to be the world's largest roadrunner.
He used to be the world’s largest but a New Mexico roadrunner seems to have beat him.

Paisano Pete happily stands, coyoteless, by the side of the road at the intersection of Hwy 290 and Main Street in downtown Fort Stockton.

  • Fredericksburg - Really cool unusual lodgings by the airport.

  • Jefferson - The most haunted little town in Texas.

In Jefferson, the sound of the train whistle should be ooooooooooooo, as in ghostly moaning…

Ghosts abound in this East Texas town.

Will you see a real live ghost while you’re in Jefferson?

    Maybe.

    Maybe not.

But your chances will be increased if you stay at some haunted lodgings.

The Jefferson Hotel has lots of ghost guests.

YOU choose the room…So many are haunted...

Jefferson - Take a ride on a ghost train.

The Jefferson & Cypress Bayou Railway, also known as the Historic Jefferson Railway, runs a ghost train tour every Friday and Saturday night. They are located in Jefferson Texas.
Every Friday and Saturday at 9:00PM, the Ghost Train of Jefferson takes off from the authentic old 1800's depot. The tour skirts around Big Cypress Bayou, for a five mile, half hour round trip.

Your ghost train tour is on the Jefferson & Cypress Bayou Railway, A.K.A. the Historic Jefferson Railway.

Or maybe that’s the other way around.

The Historic Jefferson Railway is also known as the Jefferson & Cypress Bayou Railway? (I just like the Cypress Bayou part better.)

The depot for the Jefferson & Cypress Bayou Railway--all right, all right—the Historic Jefferson Railway is at 400 E. Austin St, Jefferson Texas. Phone: (903) 665-6400

And not far away, you can climb aboard a Go Devil for a night tour of spooky Caddo Lake.

Caddo Lake State Park Texas is filled with spooky, moss-draped cypress.

Bigfoot has supposedly been seen there, lurking amongst the gray, moss-draped cypress.

Who knows what else lives within this mysterious environment.

Night is definitely the time to go for that more adventurous soul wanting a different tour.

YOU might even experience a strange happening at Caddo Lake, too.

So be on the lookout and have your camera ready...

And what the heck is a Go Devil anyway?

It’s a boat that was developed in South Louisiana to get through the swamps. To plow through the vegetation clogged waterways and to skim over shallow water.

Ride one into the dark night swamp with Caddo Outback Backwater Tours.

They are located on Pine Island Rd about 15 miles from Jefferson. Look for the small green cabin with a sign out front CADDO OUTBACK. Their website has a great map. Phone: (903) 789-3384 (home) or (903)-679-9138 (cabin)

  • Paris - The Eiffel Tower with a twist.

The Eiffel Tower in Paris Texas is truly Texan-style, with a cowboy hat on top.
There’s other towns named Paris in the US that have Eiffel Towers but Paris Texas made theirs distinctly Texan—by plunking a giant red cowboy hat on top.

    A real Texas tourist attraction!

Directions: Paris Texas Eiffel tower is at the corner of Jefferson Rd and South Collegiate Dr, next to the Love Civic Center.

  • Waxahachie - Their dream home is the Munster Mansion.

The Munster Mansion, a private residence in Waxahachie Texas.
    Yes! Really!

The owners watched all the episodes of the Munsters to get the layout of the house and then drew up the plans.

Course it’s not EXACLTY like the Munster’s house since that was only a prop. Real people really live in this real house!

There are no tours of this Texas tourist attraction, except in October. You’re welcome to take all the pictures you want as long as you stay outside the gates. ‘Member—it’s a private home.

The Munster Mansion is at 1313 Mockingbird Lane Waxahachie, TX.
