Wildomar OHV Area
Like to go off roading?
The Wildomar OHV Area is a great place to go. This is one of the still fairly unknown Southern California OHV parks and not very crowded.
It is down Killen Road off the Ortega Highway, the same road that goes to the
hang glider launch
overlooking Lake Elsinore.
Just continue past that another 5 miles or so.
Killen Road is paved but it's only one lane. It's pretty close to being an off road adventure on its own. Well, that is if I took my little MR2 down it.
Like I'm going to do that!
Ha.
But if I did, I'd definitely have to say I’d been out 4xing. I'd probably have to be rescued, too! There's potholes, hills, curves. Regular cars can make it though. I saw a couple in the parking lot.
The road to the Wildomar off highway area isn't all in this good of shape!

Full size trucks share the trails with ATVs and dirt bikes.
There's a mix of hills, dips, curves, ruts, ditches, sand and rocks.
It's a fun place.
And dusty.
Whew!
Lots of dust.
What's an off highway area without some dust?
Oooooops! I don't think that's what he was trying to do!
Now that's more like it!
Warning: The rangers do check for spark arresters on the ATVs! You also need an Adventure Pass. They're available at the Ranger Station at the top of Ortega Highway or at the
Lookout Roadhouse
on the Lake Elsinore side of the Ortega Highway.
Sometimes when it rains, they close the Wildomar OHV Area so it’s a good idea to call ahead of time to make sure it’s open.
Phone: (951) 736-1811.
Directions: Take the Ortega Highway/Highway 74 (which winds through the mountains between Lake Elsinore and San Juan Capistrano) to Killen Road. There will be signs along the highway for the Wildomar OHV Area. Continue down Killen about 9 miles to the staging area.
